Weather Innovation

As a part of the overall strategy to bring new severe weather forecasting interactions to the app, I focused on delivering these key areas:

Radar Improvements

  • Redesigned the customization options for radar layers and the timeline playback interaction.

  • Introduced unique features and UI that allow users to view additional layers and information- such a forecasted hurricane tracks, wildfires, areas where there are severe weather alerts, driving conditions, precipitation accumulation, windspeed and driving conditions.

Weather Innovation

As the most trusted and accurate weather forecaster with over 35 million users, I joined the team to redesign The Weather Channel App interface. As a part of the overall strategy to bring new severe weather forecasting interactions to the app, I focused on delivering these key areas:

Hurricane Central and Severe Weather

As severe weather is becoming more unpredictable and intense- I focused on rethinking the way users can stay updated, safe, and informed. Creating a clear and cohesive experience that allows users to get clarity on what is most important: what severe weather is happening, when will it impact me, and what you can do to be prepared. Redesigned data visuals, entry points into radar with relevant layers, and improved ways to be notified of National Weather Service alerts.

Hurricane Central and Severe Weather

I managed a tab within the main landing experience that featured a curated selection of relevant modules, including entry points into radar with default layers visible, Safety & Preparedness modules, related editorial content, and weather insights and explainers.

I also oversaw the consistent organization of modules, data, and content throughout all stages of severe weather events—before, during, and after. This included handling all types of severe weather, such as convective (tornadoes and severe thunderstorms), tropical (hurricanes), and winter weather events.

Designing with Data

The Weather Company leverages some of the most advanced and precise weather models and tools, gathering data that is fed into a network of APIs. Knowing which data APIs are available is essential for creating intuitive, user-friendly weather visualizations that effectively communicate information.

Throughout every discovery and design process, I worked closely with meteorologists to ensure the designs were scientifically accurate and aligned with meteorological standards.

Maintaining and Growing the Modernized UI & App Ecosystem

As the app underwent rapid design updates, I played a key role in maintaining the global library components within the Figma design library, including:

  • Creating new patterns and documentation for Figma design library components, introducing various variants and styles to accommodate different use cases.

  • Leading the design and implementation of the Dark Mode release.

  • Designing for cross-platform responsiveness across iOS, Tablet, and Samsung devices.
